Of over $1 billion in total resources available to CU in FY 1999–2000, 16.7 percent came from state appropriations.

CU students spent almost $400 million in Colorado in FY 1999–2000, not including tuition and fees.

The state treasury recaptures at least 57 cents in tax revenues for every general-fund dollar it allocates to CU.

Over 20,000 people are employed by CU, making it the third largest employer in Colorado.

Every job within the university generates 1.8 additional jobs in the state; therefore, total employment generated by CU is estimated at 38,000 jobs statewide.

 
Several major federal scientific installations have located in Colorado because of CU, including the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Six of these federal facilities account for over 3,700 employees, and support about 8,400 total jobs.

CU-Health Sciences Center and University of Colorado Hospital construction projects from 1998 to 2003 will generate about $1.2 billion in gross state product.

Colorado ranks sixth in overall venture capital investment with millions of these investment dollars coming to companies with licensed technology from CU.

Nineteen graduates or associates of the University of Colorado are listed among Colorado's top 62 business leaders, according to the Denver Business Journal's "Who's Who Among Leaders of Business."
