CU plays a significant leadership role in the Internet2 Middleware Initiative.

CU established one of the nation's first virtual campuses in 1996.

Over 370 undergraduate and graduate courses were offered online in 1999–2000 to approximately 7,000 students.

CU houses 285 "smart" classrooms.

Students living in residence halls have access to technology resources through high-speed campus networks.

Students can apply for admission, check financial aid status, register, check class schedules, look up grades, access billing information, and create computing accounts online.

Distance education programs allow working professionals, military personnel, and geographically isolated students to pursue graduate degrees and professional development. Master's programs are offered in engineering, business, public affairs, nursing, and the country's first online pharmacy degree program.
