Due to the economic activity attributable to CU, the state of Colorado had to spend only 43 cents to provide each dollar of support to CU in 1999.

A large portion of the $203 million that the university received in state funds last year was returned to the Colorado treasury in the form of tax revenue. It is estimated that the state received more than $116 million in tax revenue from CU in 1999.

Because the state provides less than 17 percent of CU's total budget, and because tax revenues are generated on much of the university's total budget, the state recaptured at least 57 cents for each dollar allocated to CU.
