To get a more complete picture of the significant impact CU has on the state and the nation, see CU Impact on the Web.

Not all benefits and costs of a premier research institution like CU are easily measurable. By providing such things as libraries, noncredit courses, and cultural and athletic events, CU enhances the quality of life for all citizens of the state

Neither was the fact that the presence of the university accounts for the location of some very prestigious institutions and firms, all of which have employees, meet payrolls, and generate multiplier effects much like those generated by the university itself.

While some of those operations have fairly loose ties with CU, many share in more tangible ways the resources and information exchange afforded by their relationship with the university.

For instance, the university's Office of Intellectual Resources and Technological Transfer helps create new entrepreneurial ventures that generate substantial economic benefits for the state. There are also many ancillary educational facilities and federal scientific installations that—though difficult to measure—contribute vastly to the overall well being of CU, the state, and beyond.
