In 1999, the University of Colorado spent approximately $447 million locally for operating expenses.

The university contributes to the state's economy through local expenditures associated with its operating expenses, which include such things as the purchase of office supplies, motor vehicles and their maintenance, utilities, books and periodicals, custodial and repair services, and insurance.
