The mission of the Cognitive
Levers (CLever) project is to provide computationally enhanced environments
that assist people with a wide range of cognitive disabilities as well as their
support communities.
Research Themes:
- People with disabilities
form a universe of one requiring research in personalization,
user modeling, and adaptive and adaptable systems.
- Different learning
paths are needed to match individual needs and learning styles. Memory and
attention prompting systems can be designed with architectures that accommodate
the diverse needs of persons with unique capabilities and cognitive deficits.
- Research to support
lifelong learning, and development of an infrastructure in which allows
task-relevant knowledge to be shared among different communities of participation
and interest (e.g., teachers and parents do not have the time and the knowledge
to identify the most important devices and explore their adequacy to specific
needs).
- To be independent and
included members of society, people with cognitive disabilities must have
viable mobility options for accessing community activities, services, and
opportunities. To support persons with attention or memory disabilities,
new socio-technical systems must be designed that reduce or eliminate the
cognitive barriers in existing public transportation systems, while allowing
caregivers to train, monitor, and assess persons in their care.
