The Software Process

Decisions about dissemination of software are best handled by the group that creates it, so our goal is to give groups all of the tools they need to make the decisions and manage the process. Before starting a software development project, it is best for the development group to agree on the ultimate distribution and usage goals. The TTO helps by:

• Presenting the group with some options so that they can establish their goals.
• Setting up permission statements and license agreements for external collaborators and users.
• Acting as a central hub to manage external relationships like contributors and companies who evaluate the software.
• Answering your questions about the process and providing access to legal experts when necessary.
