A campaign for giving back

Faculty, staff can help those in need via the Colorado Combined Campaign

University of Colorado employees can help Colorado's less fortunate by donating to the 2010 Colorado Combined Campaign.

Since 1988, the Colorado Combined Campaign (CCC) has helped hundreds of programs and services throughout Colorado. The campaign is the principal charitable solicitation program for CU and state government, with more than 5,800 employees throughout the state contributing last year.

During this year's campaign, employees have the opportunity to support more than 700 community partnerships. Donating to the campaign is voluntary, confidential and tax deductable. Donors also are eligible for prizes.

To choose a charity, go to http://www.colorado.gov/ccc/, select "for donors" and view the 2010 Colorado Combined Campaign Charity Listing. Participating agencies benefit a variety of causes including children, the homeless, animals or the environment. Agencies focused on job training, education, or aiding victims of domestic violence also are included.

To make a pledge or one-time gift online, go to https://donor.unitedeway.org/?campaign=ccc10, select "Pledge Now," create your new username and password and select "register." Individuals may donate through monthly payroll deductions that begin in January 2011. The CCC also welcomes gifts made by cash, check or credit card, and one-time donations. For more information on how to mail in pledges, contact your campus or system coordinator.

CCC administrators keep costs low, enabling 92 percent of donations to benefit charities.

For more information, visit www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/CCC/CCC/1184192116282.

System administration

System administration offices will be in a competition to determine which unit donates most. Last year, 34 percent of system administration employees donated more than $41,000. This year's goal is to have 50 percent of system employees participate and raise $50,000 – CU system's Fifty-Fifty Colorado Combined Campaign.

Each week during the campaign, employees who have donated will be eligible for prizes. The campaign runs through Nov. 30.

About 10 agencies will showcase their organizations at two open house agency fairs. In Denver, the fair is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 1800 Grant St., conference rooms 501-503. The Boulder fair will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 4870 Pearl St. East Circle, in the Training Room.

System coordinators are Judy Hoffman, Payroll & Benefit Services, 303-735-6478, Judy.Hoffman@cusys.edu; Angela Sanchez, University Information Services, 303-492-9636, Angela.Sanchez@cu.edu; and Rosemary Contreras, Procurement Service Center, 303-315-2781, Rosemary.Contreras@cu.edu.

For questions on the pledge form or online giving site, contact department coordinator Wynn Pericak at Wynn.Pericak@cu.edu or 303-860-5629.

University of Colorado Denver
For the second year, the University of Colorado Denver will conduct a green, paperless campaign, helping the environment and cutting administrative costs. Last year, the approximately 8,000 faculty and staff members of UC Denver raised more than any other state agency: $160,864 of the state's $1.5 million total contributions to CCC. This year's goal is to generate participation by 25 percent of campus employees. The campaign runs through Dec. 31.

For questions, contact Julia Agazio at Julia.Agazio@ucdenver.edu or 303-315-2717.

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
An Oct. 19 luncheon kicked off the 2010 campaign at UCCS. The carnival-themed event included a cake walk and hula-hoop contests. Representatives from 14 CCC agencies explained campaign goals and answered questions. An early December bake sale is being scheduled. The campus' paperless campaign continues through Dec. 14.
For more information, contact coordinator Tina Collins at tcollins@uccs.edu or 719-255-3258.

University of Colorado at Boulder
The Boulder campaign – also an online-only green campaign – kicks off Tuesday, Nov. 9, and runs through Dec. 17. Weekly prize drawings will be held. Last year, CU-Boulder employees raised $138,000 for charitable organizations.
