FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CU Gene Technology Exclusively Licensed to Colorado Start-up Company
AURORA, Colo. (March 17, 2007) Tissue Genetics, Inc. has secured an exclusive license to proprietary technology developed by Dr. Jeffrey Holt, Todd Professor of Experimental Pathology at the University of Colorado Denver (Anschutz Medical Campus). Tissue Genetics is a predictive medicine company developing diagnostics tools that enable rational drug development and precision therapy in oncology and genetic diseases. The licensed patent portfolio consists of broad claims that cover methods of detecting over 384 genetic diseases. The University of Colorado Technology Transfer Office (CU TTO) also licensed to the company a patent application for technology that identifies patients who will respond to a new generation of cancer drugs (PARP inhibitors). In 2007 CU TTO began helping the company identify management and legal counsel to facilitate the company’s launch; in November 2007 Jim Bowman (formerly CEO, Encision, Inc; AMEX:ECI) was appointed CEO, and undertook negotiations of the exclusive license agreement executed with CU TTO. The company has been funded thus far by State and Federal grants. Dr. Holt received a State of Colorado Bioscience Discovery Evaluation Grant (HB1360) to provide initial clinical validation for the intellectual property created in his laboratory. The company also secured two US Government Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards and two State of Colorado SBIR Matching Funds (HB1060) awards. Tissue Genetics is currently raising their first round of private financing.
