Colorado Companies Receive State Funding for University Technology
Seven companies developing technologies licensed from University of Colorado will getmatching funds from state to help advance business development.
DENVER, Colo. (May 7, 2008) Today the University of Colorado Technology Transfer Office announced grant awards to seven Colorado bioscience companies under HB-07 1060 – Bioscience Research Grants, one element of which provides matching funds for bioscience start-up companies that have received US Federal Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants. This portion of the 2007 bill applies to companies that are licensees of university intellectual property (IP), and supports companies’ business and market development research on licensed university IP already being developed through SBIR and STTR awards. “These grants will significantly advance the products being developed by these emerging companies,” said David Allen, CU’s Associate Vice President for Technology Transfer. “We are grateful to the Colorado Legislature, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade and the Colorado BioScience Association for their leadership to make these and subsequent grants possible.”
The total amount of grant awards for the seven companies is $564,018. The following companies will receive the awards:
- AKTIV-DRY, LLC (Boulder, CO) for inhalable vaccine delivery, $49,990.
- ApopLogic Pharmaceuticals, LLC (Aurora, CO) for their product Fasaret for cancer treatment, $100,000.
- Copernican Energy, Inc. (Boulder, CO) for solar thermal biomass gasification, $62,285; and for solar energy storage for production of hydrogen, $75,000.
- EndoShape, Inc. (Boulder, CO) for transcervical shape memory device, $49,500.
- Locomotion, Inc. (Boulder, CO) for physical therapy device for patients with gait disorders, $50,000.
- Quest Product Development, Inc. (Wheat Ridge, CO) for Microflex endoscopic surgical device, $68,980.
- Tissue Genetics, Inc. (Aurora, CO) for diagnostic tests for ovarian cancer ($80,839) and breast cancer ($27,424).
