The Children’s Hospital and University of Colorado System Announce a Cooperative Intellectual Property Agreement
July 13, 2004
BOULDER, CO--The University of Colorado System Technology Transfer Office (TTO) announced that TTO will provide intellectual property (IP) and technology licensing services to The Children's Hospital. The agreement grows out of a long-standing and productive affiliation between the two institutions, which includes plans for creating adjacent new facilities on the former Fitzsimons Army base in Aurora.
The agreement calls for TTO to provide nearly the same IP and licensing services that it provides to research investigators on the three campuses of CU. Many of the research investigators at Children's Hospital are CU faculty. Having a single organization providing technology transfer services to both institutions will result in seamless delivery. The agreement stipulates cost sharing for legal expenses and commercialization services based on the origin of the IP. Similarly, the agreement addresses distribution of revenue derived from royalty and other fees paid by licensees of IP.
Paul Fennessey, PhD., Director, Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology at the Children's Hospital will serve as the coordinator for IP related activities at Children's Hospital. He will work with a committee of Children's Hospital investigators.
David Allen, PhD., Associate Vice President for Technology Transfer for the CU System will oversee the delivery of services by TTO staff to The Children's Hospital employees. Mr. Allen said, "We are pleased that The Children's Hospital has given us an opportunity to demonstrate how the revitalized technology transfer operation at CU can deliver value to Children's employees, management and other stakeholders." Mr. Allen mentioned that the agreement with The Children's Hospital mirrors an agreement between TTO and the Denver Health and Hospital Authority signed earlier in 2004.
