CU Appoints Two New Technology Transfer Directors
BOULDER--Two new directors have been named for the University of Colorado at Boulder's and for the Health Science Center's technology transfer offices, according to David Allen, Assistant Vice President for Technology Transfer. CU's technology transfer office (TTO) is responsible for overseeing all discovery oriented intellectual property and technology licensing activities within the four-campus system.
Allen said the new appointees are Ken Porter, who will be director of the Boulder campus TTO and Vivien Dullien, who will be director of the Health Sciences Center TTO.
Jack Burns, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research for the CU System said, "We conducted a national search for the directors and screened over 140 qualified applicants and extensively involved representatives from faculty, administrative and business communities in the evaluation of candidates, and in the end, we found that the best people were right here."
Dr. Porter has served as interim director of the Boulder TTO for nearly a year and Dr. Dullien has served as a senior licensing associate at the Health Sciences Center's TTO for more than six months.
Burns added, "In the last nine months we have made significant progress at making technology transfer an important part of the research process at CU and these two people have performed an important role in turning technology transfer into a 'can do' operation."
Vivian Dullien earned her Ph.D. in Physiology from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and served as CEO and Founder of Biex, Inc. a biotechnology company that operated in Boulder from 1991 to 2000. Ken Porter earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry and his MBA from Duke University in Durham. Prior to CU, he worked as the Associate Director of the Duke University Office of Science and Technology. Both Drs. Dullien and Porter are inventors on patents from their time spent as active researchers.
Dr. Allen concluded, "These are experienced people who understand the intersection of science and business; they will lead their respective offices to a new level of service to faculty inventors and technology licensing performance."
