Richard C. Duke, Ph.D.
Board of Directors and Scientific Founder - Globeimmune Inc.

Dr. Duke is an expert on the mechanism of apoptotic cell death and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-mediated killing. Dr. Duke has published more than 60 publications on apoptosis, cytotoxic T-cell biology and basic immunology. He was the past President and CEO of GlobeImmune and its predecessor, Ceres Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. Dr. Duke remains engaged in the research and development process for the company's products. Dr. Duke is a tenured faculty member of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) where he is Associate Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) and Immunology.

Russ Farmer
President and Founder - PBC, Inc.

Russ is the President and founder of PBC, Inc. His client services include coaching/mentoring client CEOs and senior management, facilitation of 1st STOPPT exercises, CFO services, and other senior management functions. Russ is the head of the leadership and management teams at PBC.

Prior to PBC, Russ spent seven years as CFO and Financial Vice President for an aerospace systems engineering company engaged in Government contracting. He supervised and directed all aspects of finance, accounting and contract management. He spent six years as Corporate Controller for a publicly held electronics manufacturing company, during which time, he directed all aspects of accounting, together with bank and leasing company relationships. He was an auditor for a Big 5 Accounting firm for four years, and was involved in audits for a variety of companies, including companies in electronic manufacturing, rifle scope manufacturing, real estate development, mobile home community development, and envelope/stationary printing.

Russ has been a speaker for both the National and State SBIR Conferences in the past and is the President and co-founder of SBIR West. In addition these honors and other awards the Russ has, he has been a guest speaker and a panelist on numerous occasions, as well as being published in national periodicals.

Tom Smerdon
Director, Business Development - University of Colorado Office of Technology Transfer

Tom Smerdon is currently the New Business Development Director for the University of Colorado Technology Transfer Office. In this role Tom will work with inventors, TTO staff, students and the business community to facilitate the creation of new businesses based on intellectual property created by CU investigators. Key responsibilities include coordinating the process of starting viable technology companies by working to bring the best possible entrepreneurial management, business planning and risk capital sources to assist in company formation and growth.

Prior to joining the University of Colorado TTO, Tom was an Associate Director at the Ohio State University Technology Licensing Office. Before joining Ohio State in 2001, Tom started two companies; one that commercialized a self-patented bicycle product and a second specializing in outdoor gear for women, which was sold to a leading company in that industry.

Before his entrepreneurial pursuits he was a General Counsel for an Ohio-based, privately-held adhesive and polymer manufacturing company with over $100M sales. He has also served as an Assistant General Counsel for what is now called the American Chemistry Council and was an attorney at the Interstate Commerce Commission. He earned a JD from the University of Texas and a BA from Duke University.
