Bolstering educational and community growth at CU South Denver

Luella Chavez D'AngeloThe University of Colorado Denver appointed Luella Chavez D'Angelo as vice chancellor for enterprise development at CU South Denver. The position is part of Chancellor Dorothy Horrell's plan to optimize the unique assets of CU South Denver, and to advance the educational, economic and cultural well-being of the surrounding community. Our Denver campus operates the facility on behalf of the CU system.

"Luella comes to CU South Denver with expansive knowledge of the community," Horrell said. "I am confident her skills and experience in public policy, business operations and leading strategic initiatives will help move CU South Denver to an even higher level of impact and significance."

Chavez D'Angelo will also serve as a resource to build collaborations with CU's Denver, Anschutz, Boulder and Colorado Springs campus academic leaders. Additionally, she will work to enhance the university's approach and strategy with corporate and foundation partners.

Gifted to the university in 2014, the Liniger Building at CU South Denver, near Interstate 25 and Lincoln Avenue, offers classes and programs from all four CU campuses and includes The Wildlife Experience, an art and natural history museum offering community events and education.

Charged with fulfilling CU South Denver's potential as an economic catalyst and distinctive educational and community resource, Chavez D'Angelo will focus on expanding partnerships with the civic, business, educational, and community leadership in the southern metropolitan area, which is home to seven Fortune 500 companies. Her purview also includes the management of CU South Denver's people, partnerships, promotions and academic programs from all four CU campuses, the Liniger Building facility and The Wildlife Experience community services: a museum, K-12 education, community programs, and event hosting and space rental.

"After 15 years of working for Fortune 500 companies, I am privileged to be able to bring my global experiences and knowledge back to the higher education and public service arena," Chavez D'Angelo said. "I have a passion for building innovations and strategies into new educational delivery models that will benefit many in our south Denver community and beyond."

Most recently, Chavez D'Angelo served as chief global communications officer for Western Union and founding president of the Western Union Foundation. She also brings experience from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Chavez D'Angelo begins her new role today.
