Welcome to new regents

John Carson (R, District 6), Irene Griego (D, District 7), Linda Shoemaker (D, District 2) |
Colorado is one of only four states (Nebraska, Michigan and Nevada are the others) where higher education governing boards are elected. The framers of the Colorado constitution, recognizing the critical importance of the enterprise, ensured the people of the state would always have a stake in Colorado's flagship university. Voters elect nine regents, seven representing Congressional districts and two at large.
November's election brought us two new regents and the re-election of a current board member, Irene Griego. Our new members are Linda Shoemaker (2nd Congressional District) and John Carson (6th Congressional District). Both are CU alumni with great track records of service to public education; John previously served as president of the Douglas County School Board and Linda served as president of the Boulder Valley School Board. We welcome them both and thank them for their willingness to serve.
We also thank outgoing regents Joe Neguse and Jim Geddes, who served the university for the past six years. They brought thoughtful and sometimes spirited discussion to the board, and we appreciate their service and wish them the best in their endeavors.
