Athletics facilities groundbreaking
Today we broke ground at CU-Boulder on the most significant athletics facilities upgrade in some time. The milestone comes after the best fundraising effort in the history of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, which raised more in eight months than in any previous year.
The $143 million in upgrades will improve the game-day experience for our fans, enhance the competitiveness of our student-athletes (while also improving their academic support facilities) and establish greater ties with our academic programs. We provided details on the effort at the recent spring football game.
We appreciate the support of our alumni, fans and donors who rose to the challenge with their contributions. We have a great team in our athletic department, led by Athletic Director Rick George. He practices what he preaches by providing a lead donation to the fundraising effort. His example led Chancellor Phil DiStefano, me, our coaches and even student-athletes to join our supporters by donating to the effort. The great team effort bodes well for the future of Colorado Buffaloes athletics. While our fundraising efforts will continue, we are confident that the momentum created to get us to today's groundbreaking will carry on with our ongoing fundraising efforts.
