Congratulations to David Wineland, a lecturer in the CU-Boulder Physics Department, who received the 2012 Nobel Prize in physics. He is a physicist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder and is internationally recognized for developing the technique of using lasers to cool ions to near absolute zero. He shared the prize with Serge Haroche of France.
David is the fifth Nobel laureate from CU. I look forward to seeing his photo on our wall of Nobel Laureates at the CU Office of the President, where he will join esteemed colleagues John Hall, Eric Cornell, Carl Wieman and Thomas Cech.
