Celebrating one year of advocating for CU
CU Advocates celebrated its one-year anniversary and I couldn't be more proud. In the past 12 months, more than 2,000 of you have volunteered to advocate on behalf of the University of Colorado. This is a testament to the passion and support that you hold for CU and the important role the university plays in the community.
A priority for CU, the advocates program is bringing people together for a common cause, to learn about the issues and opportunities facing the university. With so much news circulating about the university and higher education, it's imperative that we provide the facts to our constituents.
The CU Advocates program has hosted nine educational forums reaching hundreds of people. These forums offer insights on the state's funding of higher education and CU's efforts to remain affordable. They also highlight our signature programs such as Pre-Collegiate and Boots to Suits.
In addition to advocacy-related activities, the program works with external affairs teams at the campuses to help connect CU to the community. Among the initiatives are CU experts making speaking appearances at events, campus tours, business and civic events, industry roundtables and more.
This multifaceted approach is paying dividends, such as newspapers publishing editorials and letters to the editor written by CU Advocates. Advocates also have assisted grassroots fundraising efforts and have donated time and money to CU. The program thrives by connecting people to our campus constituents and the CU Foundation. Some of these efforts have led to new scholarships for our students.
If you're not yet a CU Advocate, please consider joining us. For those 2,000 who are CU Advocates, thank you for getting involved. You are an integral part CU's future.
If you want to learn about CU's fiscal landscape and the funding trends in Colorado, we have a multimedia presentation you will find informative: http://www.cusys.edu/cuadvocates/budget.html.
