Record research funding
We announced that CU set a new annual record for attracting research funding from federal and state sources. In fiscal year 2011-12, our faculty researchers garnered some $815 million, improving over last year's $794 million. While we attracted $884 million in 2009-10, the number was skewed by federal stimulus funding, which has since disappeared.
Setting the record is testament to the stellar work of our faculty and students. At CU, we engage in research that improves lives, tackles significant problems facing society, and advances the economy, health and culture of Colorado and beyond.
While society, science, learning and teaching certainly benefit from our research success, perhaps the greatest beneficiary is our students. At the undergraduate and graduate levels, the opportunity to work alongside some of the best researchers in the world is extremely valuable. It enhances a CU learning environment that is already among the best anywhere.
