Creating Futures:
Contributions to CU Denver reach new high
One of the year's greatest success stories related to the Creating Futures campaign has been the unprecedented public generosity toward the CU Denver campus. More than $13.5 million has been contributed to CU Denver through the CU Foundation since July 1, 2011—more than in any other year in CU Denver history by a margin of 40 percent.
Many of these gifts support the new Business School building that opened earlier this year, notably the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities, named to honor $5.5 million in gifts from the financial services firm. But donors have been generous at all CU Denver's schools and colleges. In particular, two programs under the auspices of the School of Education and Human Development recently received transformative private grants.
In March, the Pyramid Plus program was awarded an $811,810 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation, promoting skills and techniques that foster better social emotional development in young children throughout Colorado. And last fall, the XSci program—which explores how experiential learning can make good science teachers great—received nearly $900,000 from the Merck Foundation to support expenses for upcoming teacher expeditions, research and a national experiential-learning conference.
