Online Tutoring Program

About the Program

CU's Online Tutoring Program

The CU system has a history of providing services to students that maximize their opportunity to succeed in their classes. Two examples of such services are efforts to retain students by providing on-campus tutoring, and innovative use of technology in the classroom. This program combines these two strengths by offering "live" tutoring via the Internet.

Through the Online Tutoring Program, CU students can obtain "just-in-time" tutoring during evening and weekend hours in: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and writing. The online tutoring program has been recently extended to high school students in CU's PreCollegiate Development Program. Experienced high school math teachers work exclusively with the PreCollegiate students.

The Goals of CU's Online Tutoring Program are to:

  • Provide accessible, high-quality Internet tutoring to CU undergraduates
  • Integrate contemporary technology usage into the undergraduate curriculum, thereby increasing technology literacy
  • Enhance coordination and communication between the participating departments

Our program offers drop-in access to a live tutor during hours that regular student support services are unavailable. Our Internet conferencing tools, including whiteboard, shared applications, and two way audio provide an authentic, tutoring experience, mimicking a true face-to-face setting without requiring students or tutors to leave their home or dorm room.

Although the benefits related to student success are obvious, additional benefits to the CU system are incurred through cost savings. The University can now provide quality, real-time tutoring to students from any CU campus with a single tutor.
