Karen Gifford
Patent & Intellectual Property Associate

Karen’s work in the Technology Transfer office encompasses various aspects of patent prosecution, and is in conjunction with the compliance manager and patent administrator’s duties.  Karen works closely with outside patent counsel, the many CU inventors, and the TTO licensing directors and associates.  Her responsibilities include overseeing the patent prosecution budget, managing all patent signature documents, and maintaining over 300 issued U.S. patents in the University of Colorado patent portfolio.  Additionally, she assists with government compliance reporting and intellectual property management.

Karen is a 4th generation Coloradoan, a University of Colorado alumnus, (Humanities ’01) and comes to the Technology Transfer Office after working as the University of Colorado President’s Office archivist for over 6 years.  Her passions include her family, camping, travel, history, reading and gardening.
