CU Denver chancellor finalist

HorrellI'm pleased and excited to name Dorothy Horrell, Ph.D., as finalist for chancellor of the University of Colorado Denver. Dorothy modestly describes herself as a "northeastern Colorado farm girl." While true to her roots, she also is an accomplished leader in higher education in our state who has the skills, experience and passion to further the considerable momentum the Denver campus has generated.

Dorothy has extensive experience in higher education. Gov. John Hickenlooper appointed her to the Colorado State University Board of Governors in 2009. She chaired the board in 2013-14. She was president of the Colorado Community Colleges System, the state's largest higher education system, from 1998-2000. Dorothy served as president of Red Rocks Community College from 1989-98. Most recently, from 2001-13, she was president and CEO of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, Colorado's leading foundation supporting the arts and nonprofit leadership.

She will meet with key campus constituency groups next week. They will provide to me their feedback as I consider the position and make a decision in the near future.
