Cronin announced as vice president for advancement
CU stepping up fundraising efforts to compare with national peers

CroninCU set a record in private support in the fiscal year ending June 30, receiving $258.8 million in support that will benefit nearly 2,500 programs. That total exceeds the record set in 2012 by an impressive 13 percent. Of the total, the CU Foundation raised some $128 million in private giving and another $130 million came through university grants and contracts offices from foundations and corporations. However, at this time in our history it is imperative for us to do more: to raise our fundraising outcomes to the levels of our national peers. The addition of Kelly Cronin as vice president for advancement for the university’s four-campus system will help make that happen.

Kelly has been vice chancellor of institutional advancement and chief executive officer of the Texas Tech Foundation Inc. since 2007. She will oversee all CU’s fundraising operations and facilitate the ongoing transition of CU Foundation fundraisers and support staff to the university, a move we initiated in April. She begins her duties Sept. 1.

Kelly is an accomplished leader who has had considerable success in raising private support. I have every confidence that her expertise and experience will help CU attract private support at a level comparable to the top public universities in the country.

Under Kelly’s leadership at Texas Tech, contributions to the system doubled, from $74 million in 2006 to more than $150 million in 2011. In the most recent year, Texas Tech raised approximately $160 million in private giving. She led Texas Tech’s systemwide $1 billion capital campaign, which concluded a year ahead of schedule. She also was responsible for solicitations that resulted in more than $200 million in recorded gifts, including a cash gift of $50 million from one donor.

The model Texas Tech uses is the model we are moving to at CU.

Our continued success in fundraising is testament to the value our donors see in our university and its people. Their ongoing commitment will be critical as we continue our work to move CU fundraising to the next level.
