Tuition rates set
In late April the Board of Regents set tuition rates for CU's campuses. Increases at Boulder, Colorado Springs and Denver all were at or below 5 percent. They were higher for some of the specialized programs on the Anschutz Medical Campus. CU's increases were the lowest among Colorado's public four-year institutions. When added to the slight increases in room and board rates, the total cost of attendance at CU rose less than 3 percent. We were able to keep increases in check due to a confluence of factors: our state budget cut was less than we expected early in the legislative session (it ended up to be about a $5.8 million reduction), our focus on operational efficiencies, increased public-private partnerships, and legislation the past few years that has allowed us to improve our business practices. Additionally, the Board of Regents had a good discussion about tuition before unanimously arriving at the rates cited above. The board, like all of us at CU, is working to find the balance between ensuring a quality education and keeping the cost of an education affordable.
